Literally, Hijab means "a veil", "curtain", "partition" or "separation."
Another, and most popular and common meaning of Hijab today, is the veil in dressing for women. It refers to a certain standard of modest dress for women.
While
Hijab means "cover", "drape", or "partition"; the word KHIMAR means veil covering the head and the word LITHAM or NIQAB means veil covering lower face up to the eyes.
In the contemporary normative Islamic language of Egypt and elsewhere, the hijab now denotes more a "way of dressing" than a "way of life," a (portable) "veil" rather than a fixed "domestic screen/seclusion."
The Qur'an advises the wives of the Prophet (SAS) to go veiled (33: 59).
In Surah 24: 31(Ayah), the Qur'an advises women to cover their "adornments" from strangers outside the family.

Misconceptions of Hijab
1."Hijab is a symbol of ‘male dominance’"
Hijab is an act of submission.Like any other act of worship, the rewards of Hijab come only when it is done for Allah alone.
2."Hijab is a ‘cultural thing’"
Women all across the world, from every ethnic background, wear Hijab. Do all of these women cling to old cultural practices? Since the purpose of Hijab is to please Allah, doing it for tradition is wrong.
3."Hijab is a ‘challenge to the political system"
Hijab may have political implications, as evident in the banning of Hijab in certain countries, Muslim women who choose to practice Hijab are not doing it to challenge the political system.
4. "I don't have to"
Many muslim women think that its an option to wear the hijab. It's not. You have to wear it in islam.
5. "I can't get married with hijab on"
A large number of Muslim girls use the excuse that they will wear hijab after marriage, because they think that not wearing hijab will help them to get married more easily.
what is a bad hijab for muslimahs?
For me a bad hijab is no hijab at all.. and worse than that is the muslim girl walking around pretty much naked, not covering anything of her body. now im not talking about her faith or her love for Allah SWT, so i dont need everyone commenting on . I am just talking about dress here. some people wear niqab, others wear hijab, others wear a half-hijab style , while some wear no hijab but still wear modest clothing... then there are the other types of muslimahs... who wear skanky tight clothing, short short skirts, .. you name it. now im not one to force hijab on anyone, i myself believe hijab is a process and we all go through different stages and level of our hijabiness, but there is no excuse for a MUSLIM WOMAN . if you dont want to wear hijab then thats your choice.
these two following girls are muslim. i think it is disgusting to be walking around on a stage, like this, representing Islam and their respective Islamic countries at the same time. remember i am not talking about their 'no hijab' choice, im talking about the fact that they are completely nude while telling the world they are muslim. No one asks to be a role model, but with girls like this walking around, giving out the wrong idea to younger muslim women and girls.
Reasons For Wearing The Hijab
Because the Qur'an and Sunnah states so. Allah ordered us to wear the hijab and cover up to protect ourselves so we get the proper respect we deserve and not be treated like we are a piece of meat.
2. You can dye your hair any colour you want and no one can say anything at all, because its all hidden, you can have blue hair, or purple, or bright red, or neon pink or green, long or permed or short, or rainbow colors with sparkles and glitter, jewellery in your ears, and all over....
3. Children think you are a ninja, and you can say you are 'niqabi ninja' They will think of you as this heroine and will admire you.
4. People think it is your costume. Or at least some will think of it as a costume you are wearing for your party, or work, or that you were forced to wear it. and you have to explain to them no it is your CHOICE to wear it though in the Qur'an it says it will Protect you.
5. People think you might be bald, but then you have to tell them no, I have hair...no I don't have cancer. You can show to the little kids, see I have hair....
6. You get a lot of respect in the hijab from all your brothers and sisters and other people, than you did before your hijabi days
7. You can wear whatever you like under the abayah, light and cool dresses are good.
8. Despite that this world has hot weather, HELL IS HOTTER, so you rather suffer a bit on this world than the Hereafter.

For example you are no mans torphy to adorn his hand, you are a companion, mother and friend of the insha'Allah religous brother who appreciates you and your beauty. There are other things where this applies as well.
35. Hijab is a source of confidence. Non-Muslims easily recognize you to be different and do not stare when you stand up for you Islamic rights and beliefs which are often considered strange in the western society.
36. It keeps you warm in the winter. You dont have to worry about trying to keep a hat on to stop your ears from freezing up! Plus the head is medically known for the place where a HIGH level of heat is released from the body!
37. Long Lasting. Hijab protects your hair for longer and keeps it shiny, healthy and in good condition.
HIJAB is there in Hindu and Christian Books as Well!
Lets analyze what the Hindu Scriptures have to speak on modesty?
It is mentioned in the Rig Veda Book no. 8 Hymn no. 33 V. no. 19
“When Brahma has made you a woman; you should lower your gaze and should not look up. You should put your feet together and you should not reveal what the garment and the veil conceals.”
So the Rig Veda says that the woman should wear the veil.
They should lower their gaze and should not stare.
It is further mentioned in Rig Veda Book no. 10 Hymn no. 85 V. no.30
“Unlovely is the person is the husband who covers his thighs with the garment of his wife. “
So the Rig Veda says that wearing the clothes of the opposite sex is prohibited.
It is further mentioned in the Mahavir Charitra Act 2 Page 71 that
When Purshuram comes, Rama tells his wife Sita that “He is our elder, please lower your gaze, and put on the veil. “
Rama tells his wife Sita to put on the veil and to lower her gaze.
If you read historical books, the books talking about the Coin Age, the Age of the Gupta and the post Gupta age, there are coins , on which there are pictures of the Indain woman wearing the veils and the veil are going upto their shoulders, some go upto the arms. There are many Indian woman in the villages who wear the veils, some of the woman even cover their faces.
So,if you analyze, even the Hindu Scriptures say that a woman should wear the veil. That the woman should lower their gaze.
Now lets look at the Christian Scriptures.. .
Matthew 5:27-28
You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery'
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart
Wearing of opposite sex clothes not allowed
Deuteronomy 22:5
22:5The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
I Timothy 2:9
And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes.
Punishment for a women who does not cover her head
I Corinthians 11:5-6
11:5But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven
The Noble Qur'an - Al-Ahzab 33:59
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things) and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornments except only that which is apparent (like palms of hands or one eye or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress like veil, gloves, head cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms, etc.) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their son’s, their husband’s sons, their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sisters sons or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex.
And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And beg Allah to forgive you all O believers, that you may be successful.
Because followers of hindu and christianity does not wear hijab , This implies either they do not follow whats written in it or their books says its voluntary act not complusion!

The following incident took place when Muhammad Ali's (KELAY) daughters arrived at his home wearing clothes that were not modest. Here is the story as told by one of his daughters:
When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father's suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in one day.
My father took a good look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, "Hana, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to. Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected. Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell. Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock.
You've got to work hard to get to them."
He looked at me with serious eyes. "Your body is sacred. You're far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too."

Hadith - Sahih Muslim, Narrated Abu Hurayrah r.a
Allah's Apostle said:
There are two types, amongst the denizens of Hell, I have yet not seen them. One possessing whips like the tail of an ox and they flog people with them. (The second one) the women who would be naked in spite of their being dressed, who are seduced (to wrong paths) and seduce others with their hair high like humps. These women would not get into Jannah and they would not perceive the odour of Paradise, although its fragrance can be perceived from such and such distance (from great distance).
Women should not put all her hair up on the top of her haid like a camel hump. She may put it up at home as long as some hair lays on her neck still, but not when leaving the house in hijab where the hump can be seen to be under the hijab and drawing attention to her hair.
Conditions of Muslim Dress Code
Clothing must cover the entire body, only the hands and face may remain visible (According to some Fiqh Schools).
The material must not be so thin that one can see through it.
The clothing must hang loose so that the shape of the body is not apparent.
The female clothing must not resemble the man's clothing.
The design of the clothing must not resemble the clothing of the non-believing women.
The design must not consist of bold designs which attract attention.
Clothing should not be worn for the sole purpose of gaining reputation or increasing one's status in society.
The reason for this strictness is so that the woman is protected from the lustful gaze of men & also protect her own chastity, purity & dignity so as not to seduce or lure men towards themselves. She should not attract attention to herself in any way. It is permissible for a man to catch the eye of a woman, however it is haram (unlawful) for a man to look twice as this encourages lustful thoughts.
Islam protects the woman; it is for this reason that Allah gave these laws. In today's society womankind is being exploited, female sexuality is being openly used in advertising, mainly to attract the desires of men and therefore sell the product. Is the woman really free in today's society? The answer is obviously no. Being slaves to sexuality, lust and whims, The constant bombardment by the media as to how the ideal woman should look and dress testifies to this.
Real freedom means being able to wear a veil!
There has been a vibrant debate about whether Muslim women should be entitled to wear a veil in public!
Despite my opposition to all kinds of fundamentalism, I think that a liberal society ought to be able to withstand a few people exercising their free choice to wear a veil. And it is important to understand that, difficult though it is for many us to comprehend, it is a free choice.

Most of the veiled Muslim women of the most decent, sensitive, intelligent, compassionate and humourous . and for those who say the veil is a sign of aggression, i'm sorry but Muslims don't spend their free time thinking up ways to psychologically challenge the British legal and political systems. These women are born and educated in the UK, and the decision to wear the veil is a deeply personal one. Not somthing they are expected, controlled, abused or beaten in to. Also to those of youwho feel uncomfortable talking to someone whose face you can not see, well lots of people manage to converse quite freely over internet chatrooms and telephone, any hangups you have in doing this practically face-to-face is your own.

I was just thinking about how ironic it is that I feel more comfortable wearing the hijab and working on increasing my faith at work place and my country India, a lot of women wear the head scarf for cultural reasons, not religious so when people see me wearing the hijab strictly for Islamic reasons they kind of crack jokes at me. Please forgive Allah for the lapses in wearing hijab for now ! In Sha Allah...in future as well if by mistake i do!

It is haraam for a woman to wear false eyelashes because they come under the heading of hair extensions, for which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed those who do that.
Al-Bukhaari and Muslim (2122) narrated that Asma’ bint Abi Bakr said: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allaah, I have a daughter who is newly married, and she had the measles and her hair fell out. Can I give her hair extensions?” He said: “Allaah has cursed the one who fixes hair extensions and the one who has that done.”
Al-Bukhaari (5205) and Muslim (2123) narrated from ‘Aa’ishah that a girl from among the Ansaar got married and she became sick and her hair fell out. They wanted to give her hair extensions, so they asked the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about that, and he cursed the one who fixes hair extensions and the one who has that done.
Al-Nawawi said:
The one who fixes hair extensions is the one who joins the other hair to the woman’s hair. The one who has that done is the woman who asks someone else to do that for her. These ahaadeeth clearly state that it is haraam to fix hair extensions, and the one who fixes hair extensions and the one who has that done are both cursed in general terms. This is the more correct meaning.

False eyelashes come under the same heading, because the real eyelashes are extended with the false ones.
Moreover some doctors have mentioned that false eyelashes lead to chronic allergies in the skin and eyes, and to infection in the eyelids, and may cause the eyelashes to fall out. So using them is harmful, and the Lawgiver forbids that as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.”
See Zeenat al-Mar’ah bayna al-Tibb wa’l-Shar’. P. 33.
The Muslim woman should note that paying too much attention to such matters may be a kind of over-indulgence in leisure and luxury, and a waste of time and money which she could have used for something more beneficial to the Muslims, especially nowadays when people have no drive to do good and women have been distracted from their basic role which is to raise the next generation, and instead they are paying too much attention to these matters

The pea is a splendid plant. It proudly displays its strong green Hijab. It protects it from the hot and cold weather and guards it from insects. Allah has blessed the pea with a special Hijab, because without it, the seeds would scatter, dry up and die.
