Madinat Zayed

Madinat Zayed with 29.095 inhabitants (2005 census) is the largest town and the administrative centre of Al Gharbia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Gharbia), the westernmost and largest region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Dhabi_%28emirate%29). The township was established in 1968 by Sheikh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheikh) Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zayed_bin_Sultan_Al_Nahyan).The nearby Habshan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habshan) gas field is an important natural resource.

Madinat Zayed is situated 170 km southeast of the city of Abu Dhabi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Dhabi) and 50 km from the coast. The principal road is E45, which connects the town with the E11 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_11_road_%28United_Arab_Emirates%29) in the north and the Liwa Oasis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liwa_Oasis) in the south. Another main road leads to Ghayathi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghayathi).
